local user associated with domain user
hey everyone,
a friend of mine just got a laptop for his business. he wants to associate a local user on the laptop to his username on the domain (same desktop items, cookies, etc.). how would he go about doing that in windows xp pro?

If he just wants an easy way to transfer the items in his domain user profile to his local user profile then he can copy the domain user profile to the local user profile.
Right-click MY COMPUTER>Select PROPERTIES Click on the ADVANCED tab>Under USER PROFILES, click SETTINGS Click on the Domain User profile and click COPY TO He will need to be a member of the Local Admins group to perform the copy... This process completely overwrites the local user profile. It may be a good idea to 'test' this process with another account first. However, this is a one-shot deal...when he makes changes to his domain user profile they will not be made on the local user account unless another copy is done. Also, some programs may not work with the local user account. HTH, -LW |
