Opening new window problems.

Whenever I click a link which would open a new window. It won't load up for me. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Here's a pic:

Try going into Tools>Internet options>Security, and see if you find anything weird....

EDIT: Try running some malware scans and see if anything shows up.

What do you mean by weird? everythin seems normal to me. I ran a scan and deleted many things, still don't work. the only problem this time is that when you click on a clickable link and openin a new window. the link doesn't transfer to the new window. the address bar stays empty.

You could try a repair reinstall of your IE, or if you have WindowsME, you could try a System Restore. If you do a Restore, however, be sure to scan again for spyware and viruses, since they can become active again if a copy was in the restore folder.

You can usually do a repair of IE either from the Add/Remove applet in Control Panel, or from the "Tools" menu of System Information [in Win9x, it's in Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools]

If that doesn't help, and you are currently a NetZero customer, call them and see if there's an issue with the version of their software that you are using. Since they require the ad-banners to generate revenue, something might be a bit broken with the extra windows you wish to open.

I have alot of Restricted websites somehow. I think I used a tracking cookie remover and it put everything there. Maybe that could be a problem?

Seems possible. It might be too aggressive, and is blocking your access to harmless sites. Might want to research any FAQs pages for the cookie remover program at it's website. Some sites are said to have trouble displaying if the browser is set to not allow cookies - though I haven't experienced this myself (I tend to allow first party cookies, and prompt or disallow others).

Try a known "good" site (one that your cookie program hasn't/won't restrict) and see if the extra window displays OK.

You could also try temporarily disabling that program & seeing how that goes.

Anything show up over at NetZero? Did you try a repair of IE?

I don't use netzero, I am using cable internet with a wireless router. I went to "Add/Remove IE. Wasn't sure which to repair.

Should I remove like all the cookies that were in there, and maybe it'll work again?

Add/Remove Programs - find IE in there, hit the remove button. You will get a menu - choose repair.

I did that, and it didn't say repair. It said you want to uninstall. So i click yes, and no new window popped up. It just completely uninstalled it.

I'm rather bouncing back and forth between your two Internet threads - but I'll try to cover both bases here:

The Add/Remove, if no repair was available, probably simply reverted you to a previous version. With Win98, that's not all bad, if the previous version is 5.5, which usually works pretty well with 98. If you run the Windows Security Update CD, you'll end up with a fresh version of IE6 with lots of patches already in place.

The reason I guessed you use NetZero is your screen from your 1st post, which has the Active Window Border titled "Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by NetZero, Inc." Perhaps you're a former customer? Or ?

I'm a little concerned that your system still isn't pest-free. If you use a wireless router, did you setup and enable it's built-in firewall and WPA encryption? Is your computer set up on a home network? Do all the computers on it have firewalls/antivirus/antispyware programs installed & active? If not, you can re-infected in a matter of seconds from other infected computers on your local network [not to mention that if you haven't the latest Security patches installed, you're vulnerable from the Internet as well].

I'd lay odds that you still have unwanted visitors in the system. Can't hurt to scan again. Try a scan from Safe Mode, with updated definitions, for both viruses and spyware. If you have backups of your data, scan the backups too. If you've used any non-write-protected diskettes in the system, scan those too. If you don't currently have firewall/antivirus/antispyware installed and active, once the system is cleaned up would be a good time to start putting those to work.

I would get the exact same problem with IE at the college that I attend..they were machines with 98SE on it.

This would happen if I tried launching AIM express

I went to another site, and it opened a new window and it worked. But this problem still isn't fixing for me.
