Hi!
Just installed XP for the first time and I will be the only person using the computer. The first thing I did was download all the windows updates and install them. Now everytime I boot into the OS I get a welcome screen and my name highlighted in a profile list, I don't mind clicking in everytime but I just wondered if there was a way you can tell the O to just goto desktop as I am the only one to use the comp! Cheers |

In XP there are default user profiles set up for Admin and Guest.
I recommend you set your own user name up for admin and/or your user name and delete the defaults after that. All hackers know the default user names. I use some option so you cant go directly to the desktop. It requires the user to use the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys to sign in for security purposes. However, I think there is a way to turn off quick user switching. I also like to use the Pevious Windows 98 Style, because I think the new look and design of the start menu is too comic book like. I think the options for that are in the start menu. In the control panel there are settings for user accounts and in that area there is an option for how users log on. You can probably get there by selecting Settings from the start menu. Last edited by piasabird; 07-30-2004 at 09:08 AM. |
