RAID/SCSI driver installation

I know that when you want to install these drivers you have to press a button at the installation, but my question is this: where are they installed? The drive is not partitioned or formatted, so where do they go? Are they kept in RAM?

I had always assumed they were loaded into the RAM, much like the fdisk tool is loaded off of a boot floppy
