XP Constant Reboot

Ack. I don't know whats going on. I shut down my PC last night. The only thing that happened was that iexplore.exe was running and Windows told me to wait. I chose "End Now" and the PC shut down. Now I try to turn the system on this morning and Windows refuses to boot. After the boot screen, I am informed that windows did not successfully start due to an incomplete shutdown, change in hardware/software etc.

I am given the options to Start Windows Normally, Load Last Known Good Configuration, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking and Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

I tried every option. The Windows loading screen comes up, runs for a few seconds, and then the screen goes blank and returns to the boot screen. No matter which option, I get this.

I did not install any new software or make any hardware changes. My power supply is an Antec 350. My temperatures are normal, 40C. I'm using XP Pro on a 40gig IBM drive.

Any ideas on how to get back to normal? TIA

I can't find any option to do that. I booted from CD with my Windows disc. When setup loaded, I chose Setup and hit enter. I agreed to the license agreement. Then it showed my partitions, which is just one; C. I hit enter and was asked to format the drive. I never got an option to Repair. I tried pressing R at each step of the way but no luck. I don't want to format because I'll lose all of my data.

I tried the Recovery Console and ran the fixboot and fixmbr commands. Both informed me that my current setups were corrupted and they wrote new ones.

I still cannot get into windows.

Any ideas? TIA

I've seen this happen but it turned out to have a problem with overheating. Very frustrating behaviour. I see you said your temps are normal, but if you don't come up with another solution, just leave it sit for a while and see if it boots.

HTH

Well, it did come back to life. I tried the fixboot and fixmbr commands in the Recovery console and tried to boot and it worked. Odd behavior though, my drive hasn't had issues before. Oh well.
