Format gone wrong

hey guys

I need a quick answer here if possible.

i have just formatted my friiend system and it went as normal. I reinstalled ME, but after windows had booted i have gone to install driver via CD but there is no cd rom drive, i have ran the add new hardware wizard but no joy, i have also made sure that they are enabled in the bios which they are but they dont show up in my computer or explorer or in device manager ??

I know he drive is working because i have just used it to install the OS.

Any ideas how to get theses back ???

Turn pc off
unplug the ribbon cable to the cd-rom and boot up
Shutdown and turn pc off
Re-attach the cable and boot up. Hopefully windows will redetect ti.

I have tried that, and i have even reinstalled again since posting same thing....

I did find something on the net about enabled Dual IDE channels for your hardrive as sometimes that can cause the drive not to show, i have done that but still no joy.....

I also booted fromt he start up disk and selected Cd support and it finds both drives and installs both of them and then th os boots up, but still no drives show ????

Open Device Manager - are there any flagged devices, like IDE controllers? What brand and model motherboard is this, or if a name brand computer, what brand and model?

there is two flags on the IDE controllers, i have a motherboard cd which i need to install which sort that out but its a cd and i have no cd drives at the moment so thats a problem in itself.....

I think this may be the root cause but am not sure.

Am in work at the moment so i would be able to tell you the make and model but it had been built

If you can give us the model of the motherboard, we can find downloadable drivers for you that may fit on a floppy.

I have managed to sort out the issue not sure how, i reinstalled the OS and the drivers for the motherboard and it was still the same, then i did a full windows update, and still no joy.... then i started the computer in safe mode and loaded the drivers step by step and it worked so i dont know what happened, how it was fixed am just glad that it is....

Thanks of the advice guys
