You need something like RASPPPOE. On that site you can find every info you need. . also how to install it etc.

It's pretty easy.

well i have xp pro and im using sbc yahoo dsl but it shouldnt matter 98 or xp just connect the modem to your computer then open internet explorer and typr in address bar and type this http://192.168.0.1/ then just login in or connect

if you dont already have a login/user id this method wont work youll need to call up sbc and get one or you could use that cd and make your user id then uninstall the software if thats what your wanting then go back to http://192.168.0.1/ and you should be able to login

ps: thats what i done because i diodnt like all that stupid software and help programs and junk on my computer

It does matter. Only Windows XP has native broadband support. For anything before (Windows 95, 98, NT and 2000) you need to install something like RASPPPOE.

Just plug in and go. . that is only possible with XP.

Hi ssahl,

Another consideration is getting a router. No Yahoo, RASPPPOE, or other.

. . . I like Kubie's suggestion . . . you also get a nice builtin NAT & SPI firewall with most of the recent models, too (and can share the connection if you set up a home network). The Dlink DI-604 is an inexpensive, easy to setup wired router (security is less complicated with wired) for about $20 USD, available at most computer stores, BestBuys, and Circuit City stores.

RASPPPoE for direct connect, or get a router.

dee_sel: Your procedure sounds like you have a DSL modem with a router function. Standard bridge modems need a PPPoE client or an addon router.
