dos commands for new build
Does anyone have a basic list of commands used during the initial setup of a new hard drive. I got into computers after DOS was no longer taught. I've seen the extensive lists of commands that will take me all week to decode and figure out I'll only use a few.
I have built computers before but would like a quick reference guide to help me along in the process. I appreciate any and all help! **sorry for the double post, I'm unsure of what forum this needs to be in since I will be using windows 2000** |

There are no DOS commands that you need to use to set up Windows 2000 or a new hard drive. I am unclear of your question; so I will tackle it in either option
(a) You have a new hard drive, and you need to load Windows 2000 on it. There are no DOS commands; boot your computer with CD in and your BIOS set to boot from CD (consult your motherboard/computer manual for information on how to set it). Then follow on screen prompts (b) You have an existing Windows 2000 system and have a new hard drive being put in; in that case, install the hard drive correctly and boot to Windows 2000. Check out the article here: http://www.webtechgeek.com/How-to-Pa...Windows-XP.htm it is for XP but the tool should be the same for Windows 2000 |

. . . [P. S. ... rmaier = what you're remembering are the old disk setup commands that are still used for Win95/98/ME (such as fdisk and format). Those were indeed DOS commands. Like Statica mentions, you happily no longer need those!] . . .
