USB Problems

I've been having problems with USB for months now and have been able to put up with it, but it's just getting annoying now and i'm really hoping you guys can help me out.

My first problem is with my USB Flash Storage drive. Whenever I plug it in it comes up as being recognised. I then go into my computer, then F:\ and then the window freezes. It will stay frozen until I unplug the drive. I CAN get it to work, but doing it is a pain. If I shutdown the PC, plug in the drive, reboot and go into BIOS. And then in the "Boot" menu I select to "Reset Data Configuration" when windows loads up I can get into the drive. If I unplug and then plug it back in again, the window freezes as usual. The same idea happens with my flatmate's digital camera, although my camera works fine for some reason. (My camera is older).

I've also found that if I move one device from one USB port to another it pops up as a new device and has to be re-intstalled. Although maye this is just because I have been restting the data configuration?

Any help on this would be much appreciated as it is really frustrating!!

I have the same problem. I have a Creative Nomad mp3 player. I plug it is, start to move files and windows tries to hard! My computer just stops working when it is pluged in, but on my dad's old 98SE, it works fine.

Cool

To all. Are you running XP with SP1 installed? SP1 fixed a lot of USB problems in XP.

Can anyone at least explain why it is only SOME USB devices that work, while others make the window freeze?

I just tried my mp3 player in Safe Mode and it worked fine. Why is that?

I had an idea while trying to fix a separate problem. could it be that I have a poor quality power supply? If I was to buy a decent PSU would that maybe make a difference?
