I helped (along with the 'Mech) a friend clean up his computer of some viruses. I put AVG and Adaware on. We resolved the issues he was having, but he says he's experiencing a new one on occassion...
On Shutdown, the screen goes black but the computer keeps running. He's been resetting to get out of that situation. Is this a common problem, and what's the fix? Thx!

What O/S?
How much time has he given the comp to shut down? My computer takes longer than most because I have a lot running in the background and a lot of programs installed.

XP, FF.
I think the computer sits for long periods before he finally resets. It's not every time, just occassionally. I thought I had read somewhere of a similar or the same problem, and it had a fairly easy solution... Couldn't find it back. Dunno...

I had the same problem with ME. When I would click start, shutdown, it would hang, on the black screen with the cursor blinking in the upper left corner of the screen. It was starting to drive me nuts. What it actually was, was a corrupted system file, and was solved by reinstalling ME, and that took care of the problem. So you may want to do an over the top reinstall of XP, and that should take care of your problem as well.
Good luck, HTH. |
