Login Crash
WindowsXP Home (i know i know, i should have expected this much) system...
All the hardware is running fine. 2 Days ago i some how got some spyware trash on my PC. So i used SpyBot and Ad-aware and removed it all. Then i log back into windows after restart and re-scan incase it missed something. All clean. Next i do a Norton Anti-Virus Check, and also comes up clean. So i am all set, later on in the day i opened up Windows Media Player, and it would make the "ding", error type sound. So i tried to figure out what was wrong maybe it deleted the registry file or something along those lines with ad-aware and/or SpyBot. So i do a "Last Known Good Config" and let it restart. After it gets me back to the login screen, i type in my password, and hit enter.... System Reboots. It being windows i think nothing of it and chalked it up to terrible programming. So type it in again. Reboot. Now i'm in safe mode for 2 days with school and work and havent had much extra time to fix it. I have access to everything in safe mode, i turned off all startup processes in Normal Mode. All the scans i did were up to date protection/updates. And i have these 2 Event Log Errors: Event Type: Failure Audit Event Source: Security Event Category: Logon/Logoff Event ID: 529 Date: 8/3/2004 Time: 11:33:08 PM User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Computer: BRASSMAN Description: Logon Failure: Reason: Unknown user name or bad password User Name: Brassman101 Domain: BRASSMAN Logon Type: 2 Logon Process: Advapi Authentication Package: Negotiate Workstation Name: BRASSMAN For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. and also... Event Type: Failure Audit Event Source: Security Event Category: Account Logon Event ID: 680 Date: 8/3/2004 Time: 11:33:08 PM User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Computer: BRASSMAN Description: Logon attempt by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0 Logon account: Brassman101 Source Workstation: BRASSMAN Error Code: 0xC000006A For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. From the security tab under "failed audits". And from the application tab was this one error: Event Type: Error Event Source: EventSystem Event Category: (50) Event ID: 4609 Date: 8/3/2004 Time: 11:32:09 PM User: N/A Computer: BRASSMAN Description: The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 8007043C from line 44 of d:\nt_qxp\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. I'm hoping i didnt forget any information, and having dealt with problems, i know how important it is. Thanks in Adv. Brassman |

Does it actually restart, or does it just go back to the login screen?

It actually restarts POST screen, then loads windows services, then login pops up. Then repeats if i press the "Hint" button or put my password in.

The bit about "line 44 of d:\nt_qxp\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp" makes it sound like a real bug in Windows that they could address. I'd check their site for a hotfix that specifically mentions your problem (try searching on "eventsystemobj" or "8007043C" for example).
Do you have any other users set up on the computer? Try creating one and logging in as that user. |

Going to try the user thing when i get out of classes today.
About getting a Hotfix, after this happened, later that day i went in and downloaded Every possible fix for XPHome. I have managed to find only one site with information pertaining to the 2 searches u mentioned and the site requires some payment every month. Just noticed now that the error is occuring from "d:\..... etc.." , thou D is actually my 2nd HD and has nothing to do with system files on it except the page file. There actually isnt even a directory named "nt_qxp". I will have to look into that further. Hopefully someone else will come up with something, with so many views, and so little replies, i would assume this is a rare or uncommon error/problem. Thanks, Brassman |

The "d:\....cpp" doesn't refer to a file on your computer. It's meant as information for the Windows developer that actually wrote the piece of windows that's crashing.

Ah, learned something new.
In any case i needed the PC for midterms and such, so i had to System Restore it and surprisingly enough it worked this time. Too bad i didnt have more time to figure out the problem, it would be nice to know what went wrong. Thanks, Brassman |

Glad that worked for you (I've never had luck with it).
