Difference in XP and 2000?

I have Win 2000 and enjoy finding tweaks, utilities, etc. So often, I see ideas that are said to be for XP versus 98, ME and sometimes 2000. But many places just address XP.
Question. Can I use ideas labled as for XP on my 2000 OS? I guess that I really do not know the differences between XP and 2K but do not care about the 'cosmetic' diffs.

For example, Kellys-Korner has a lot but implys it is for XP.

Thanks,
Al

Alot of things are setup for Win2k/XP....

If you see a reg tweak for XP and you don't have anything close to it in 2k then it's a no go. Many you can try, you just have to keep your fingers crossed that it boots back up.

My favorite site is www.TweakXP.com
I can and have spent hours there.

Many of the tweaks I've seen for XP can be used in 2000. However, not *all* can be. Make sure you backup your registry before you do anything so you have something to fall back on in case something goes wrong.

Also, I will be having a 2000/XP tweak article go live any day now, so keep an eye out for that on PCMech's home page.

Black Viper does a nice job of separating the Service tweaks for 2000 and XP. He offers several other tips as well.

Thanks to those that offered a response. It would seem that as long as one is careful, backs up the registry, then there is little harm in trying a tweek. I'll keep looking at Black Viper though I have done so before and will look for the new article.
