Question How to create a system disk with XP?

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been discussed already. I did not see anyhing regarding this upon scanning the threads in this section. I know its fairly easy to create a bootable system disk with Windows98 but does anyone know how to do it with Windows XP?

One of the nice things about XP is the CD is the bootable disk. But if this is not what you were looking for go here: http://www.bootdisk.com/

as a side note to all, looks like bootdisk.com needs from you 4$ to get the disks now......

That is what I like to hear!!

I've been reading the "Build Your Own PC" guide on this website & it is great but just a bit dated. That is where I got the idea that I needed a bootable system disk (from Win98) with "fdisk" & stuff like that on it.

Follow up question: Will my CD/RW drive from my old rig be "ready to go" when I put it in my new rig? What I mean is will I need to re-install any drivers or the like or can I just boot from the CD/RW drive right away?

Thanks in advance for all helpful suggestions!

Yes, your CD-RW should be ready to go as far as reading CDs is concerned, since it looks like a regular CD-ROM to the computer.

You should be able to boot from the CD-RW drive right away. Most typical optical drives (at least from my experience) don't require special drivers. Ive seen pretty fancy and expensive CD Burners work right through DOS.

To recover your operating system when your computer does not start correctly or does not start at all, you may want to install and use the Windows Recovery console. However, Microsoft recommends this method of system recovery for advanced users only. Also, learn about the Recovery Console command prompt, command actions, rules, how to remove the Recovery Console, and how to install it during an unattended installation.
