Boot Up Issue
Just reinstalled windows XP - now when I boot up it asks which operating system do I want to start? It gives the option of Microsoft Windows XP Pro and an unidentified Operating System on drive c. I am only running XP is there a way to get rid of this. When i hit enter for Windows XP works ok - a little slow though.

When I reinstalled XP Home on my dell, it gave me a similar prompt. I selected The Actual XP operating system. Afterwards, that prompt did not come back again. Does it keep coming back after you select the OS and reboot the system after it loads?

Right-click on "My Computer," select "Properties", then "Advanced", then Startup and Recovery settings. Click on the Edit button and you will be in the boot.ini file. under [operating systems], you should have a line that says something like this:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect You will also have something else. Delete that "something else" line, keeping the line with Windows XP. That should get rid of the choice. If you are unsure of what to delete, post the contents of the boot.ini file and we can help you out. |
