I had the same problem when I deleted my handheld computer application program. I got mfc42.dll but it wouldn't load up no matter what I did. So I reloaded the programs that I undid that one night and when I loaded the handheld app presto! it loaded properly.
Try reloading a few proggies, esp. the one he discarded.

All articles that I can find indicate you must reinstall the affected application to properly reinstall and register mfc42.dll.

What is telling you that mfc42.dll is missing or whatever? Are you getting an error message, and if so, exactly when (what are you trying to do?) and exactly what does it say?
