Question on a XP Repair Type Installiation
Hi From Texas !
On my recent problem that I had, the recommendation from a reply post was to put in my windows XP CD in for a repair and not installation operation. I did do this. He told me NOT to chose the second choice " repair from console " and I did not. Is what I want to know , is , what does that mean "repair from console ".------------------------ Don PS: It did fix my two problems #1. I lost my " Search Companion" which wouldn't let me search for Files and Folders. Now I can. #2. That pop up problem I had was fixed in which a pop up would come up asking me "who would I like to run this program"every time I went to start a program , I got that square pop up box. Gosh , when I tried to shut down , that pop up box would come up. I X'ed it out to get rid of it. |

Like andy says, the Recovery Console is a powerful tool, but it works much like dos commands and you really need to know specifically what you are doing. Kinda like messing with the Registry - not a mission for rookies. Sounds like what worked for you was a repair from within the install mode. It does an over the top repair to any problem areas without affecting any installed programs or personal files. Any time you do that type of repair, however, you have to do a scan at Windows Updates. The repair may delete some of the previously installed updates.
