low system resources

Right now I am showin my system resources at 41%. Heres what I currently have showing that running.
Explorer
zclient-(zonelabs)
vsmon-(not sure what that is, but always there)
systray
A---?? not sure about this either

I have select startup selected through "msconfig" and the only thing showing checked is

system tray
zonelabs client
systray.

Thats all that is selected. I have a whole page of stuff in there from when I got a virus a couple mths ago. but through this site I was able to get everything but it still shows in the system config. utility.Nothing but a bunch of .EXE files. Is there any way to get rid of all those files in there through regedit? How will I know what to delete?

How much RAM is there in the system?

Try running adaware and spybot to scan for spyware. It loves to clog up system resources.

Vsmon is part of Zonealarm: http://www.liutilities.com/products/...library/vsmon/

You don't seem to be running an Antivirus program, you should probably run a scan online at http://housecall.trendmicro.com and think about installing one (such as AVG).

Resources has nothing to do with RAM, so the amount installed and the amount free matters not.

Are you getting Low on Resources or Out of Memory errors? If not, having a larger percentage does not translate to improved performance.
The key reading is after a fresh boot. The percentage should be in the mid 80's area. If it is substantially lower, you most likely have excessive apps starting at boot time.

If the program you are pointing to is just called "A", then this seriously looks like a virus/trojan and you should complete that online scan.

BTW If this is all that is selected in startup, you also want to REselect SCANREGISTRY. As it is now, you do not have any daily backups being created.

System resources is read as the amount of RAM being used/free. On a 2000/XP computer, it's "Memory Usage".

Except,

He is stating System Resources as a percentage, not a value and, his previous posts show him to be a Win98SE user, where my statement holds true, and this is the WinME/9x forum!!

And, for future reference, I'd appreciate knowing where you got your particular definition of "System Resources" for NT based platforms. In a dynamic vm based environment, memory usage should "really" be a meaningless measure of anything. (IMHO)

system resources as a percentage could mean memory. lets say theres 512MB of total ram and 128MB is free. that would mean 75% of the resources are free.

This should clear up the confusion between RAM and System Resources.

http://www.iocomp.com/support/helpvcl/ioc01589.htm

http://fp.computers.pcc.edu/pmcg/mem..._resources.htm

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/question466.htm

To fix the issue that you are having; you will need to disable unneeded services and programs from starting up during boot up.

sometimes you have to be in dos mode without windows running to clean the virus.

I'd get the free DOS F-Prot and run that in true dos mode. Boot to safe mode command prompt only to do it.

Hope you guys don't mind but I went to the security forum to discuss these trojans and such. Just thought it might be best placed there with people looking to help in that specific area. I need to get this fixed...
I Should get this fixed before setting up a wireless network with a new laptop shouldn't I?? I know this must be a stupid Q, But had to ask
