Lightbulb XP SP2 officially released

For those of you who want to install it right now, here's the link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Personally, I'm on the boat with the people who are going to wait a little while to see how it goes.

The beta made my internet stop working (IE only, Firefox still worked), so I might give it a go to see if it is different.

I just installed it last night and no hitches thus far. One thing I have noticed is that my internet connection seems to be a lot more stable speedwise (on a wireless network).

I am also going to wait a bit and hear some people’s opinions of SP2 before I install it. I am just hesitant to install it after hearing about the problems with the beta.

I guess Wi-Fi integration is left something to be desired on SP1 - just got SP1 only a month or two back and it has been horrid - it will never automatically connect me even to my home Wi-Fi network when inserted on login. Hopefully, SP2, as speeddude mentioned, is a wi-fi integration upgrade.

Hmm so then the one for users who do not have or have not had the beta of SP2 is due out the 16th then? Thanks for the heads up on that, as that is the one that most people will want.

Where did you get that information ? I don't believe they release an extra version just for the beta testers.
On the M$ site it's only mentioned that there will be a "version for a single computer", which is the version that you can obtain through windows update instead of the big download. But I haven't seen anything that mentiones different versions for SP2 beta and non-SP2 beta.

the download on the link is the full 266mb file you don't need sp1 or any of the updates that have bean released the auto update one will only download the bits you need so if your computer is up-to date then its only about 30 to 100 MB but if you have a fast connection then get the full 266mb and put it on a cdr or slipstream it on to your windows xp CD in case you have to reinstall it saves a lot of downloading in the future

I have been using it since Friday and I havent had any problems with it. Its great... I guess the notices of security will help morons that use broadband without a firewall and antivirus software.

The info I posted above came from my MS mvp contact in Redmond. Not sure what the difference between the two installs are.

Well I installed it and nothing went wrong.
The only difference I see is some annoying pop-ups saying if you want this program here, and if you want the firewall on.

Oh, the joy of pushing out a 266Mb sp to about 100 machines over the network that will probably cause me grief.

I think that I will wait a year or so.

I tried the beta a while ago, and it won't install, and left my computer screwed up.

I nervously installed SP2 today, and all went well. One of the things I noticed right away, is that it shows me as connected to my wireless internet the minute I receive a package, rather than when I start sending them.

You don't want any 277 MB SP2. The genuine package is 266 MB! It works just fine. Pirate users of Windows XP can get onboard. This is a definite, at least for right now.

RayH,
Didn't have much choice. Firefox says it was a 272.4mb download. A click on properties says 266. All i know is that its burned to a disc (266mb) and I'll install it in a couple days.
