UH!OH !--SP2warning compatibilityProblems
Hi From Texas !
I took this out of a read on SP2. This got to the point. XP SP2's changes are so drastic, in fact, that Microsoft acknowledges that certain applications and services will experience compatibility problems. For this reason, businesses should thoroughly evaluate SP2 before rolling out the update. But make no mistake: All XP users, whether they're individuals or corporations, should upgrade to XP SP2 as soon as possible. As Microsoft representatives note, SP2's more secure environment will more than make up for any potential incompatibilities. |

So what's new? I mean really, its not about Microsoft bashing, take any OS, any software ANYTHING - businesses should thoroughly evaluate it before wide deployment! Unfortunately, given the number of people masquerading as system admins hiding behind the Microsoft wizards and GUIs; Microsoft finds it imperaritve to state the obvious.
For my part, I'll say this; I've been running SP2 for a bit now, and its rock solid; most users will find a lot of their existing programs (ZA, Google Toolbar etc etc) a tad redundant. For all the delays in releasing SP2; I'll say this - this is the best Microsoft service pack I have worked with EVER. |

Statica,
Our company's IT Tech is going to do one pc at a time because of the potential of shutting the place down. So he had the ones with XP shut down auto-update as a precaution. Carl |

Those with custom software have to be wary. Those using more general software don't have much to worry about.

Thanks Guys For The Replays
Huh , as for me I am not going to get ANY update. Something nice happened the other day. last week I used my XP CD to fix any errors I had. It fixed the NASTY TWO problems I had. One of them , I am pretty sure, was caused by an up date that came in over the last two weeks. I had been hit around 10 updates total. That is where my problem started. A box pooping up anytime I went to open a program. The box asked me who do I want to run this program. Shoot , when I took my arrow to Start to shut down XP, that box pooped up. When I went to make a restore point , you guessed it , that box pooped up.-----Anyway, the 'something nice happened to me' , was that it got rid of ALL updates I had. I don't have ANY now. I plan to operate my computer without any updates. No SP1 or SP 2. I had been, since XP came out, doing fine. These latest updates caused that box pop up problem. Someone here always posts " if it is not broke, don't fix it "-----------lets have a race. When you get SP2 installed, we will see who has the first major problem. Me or you.---------------------Thanks Donald PS: I will be back at 1:30 AM |

sp1 is how you get some needed drivers and support for the hardware on your system, you really should use the service packs foe your system to help it run the way its supposed to, yes it will run fine without them but it is not a good way to use it
at least use the critical updates, you may not need some of the others. I also recommend your getting a good book on useing xp, it will help you understand its workings and features. sp2 so far has been a improvement on all my systems on my network. |

And Win2K is mo' betta than any flavor of XP in my opinion unless you live on the dangerous edge and do things that require you to do system restores frequently. Flames not solicited.
