That version works good. What can I say? Microsoft is more just trying to keep the traffic down. Can you imagine what it would be like if 200 million started downloading? They want to meter out the download via Automatic Updates.

The IT version is it. I ran it for a day. I decided to slipstream it. I put in a fresh install w/slipstream and it works fine. The slipstream saved me about 650 MB.

The auto-update from what I remember is a smaller version since that download contains all pckages, including SP1, so the one on Windows Update would be smaller and without needless additions that most users don't need, such as SP1 and following updates.

That is for everyone. M$ just has a strange thinking. M$ says if you want to update a single computer you shouldn't get it and wait until it is offered by Windows Update. That is all. It's the same service pack.
But that one, which is claimed to be for IT pro's only, is the complete SP2. You can download it and save it on hard drive. You can slipstream it and do a clean install. Or you can just update your exisiting Windows XP System.
The "for everyone" will be downloaded in the background and you'd have to do that everytime you reinstall Windows as you have no possibility to save it afterwards. No chance for slipstreaming either.

Well, it is the largest file size Service Pack I have ever downloaded at 266MB. I have installed it on my machine and so far so good. Because of the files size I am under the impression that you could use it to update XP pro, Home, and media center?

Question

What is meant with the term slipstream and how would this process be completed?

If you can get XP SP 1 loaded in your computer, you can get SP2. It was an on again, off again situation as to whether or not Microsoft was going to allow less than pedigree keys install SP2.

The RC2 did. Then it didn't. The IT version of SP2 does.
