Problems with windows xp professional

Help! I've recently upgraded to Windows XP Professional from Windows 98Se and now I cannot access the internet using Internet Explorer 6 Or Netscape Navigator 7.1. Any suggestions as to why this is occurring? I have a Gateway 433mhz with a celeron processor. I am running 512mb of ram, 2 hard drives with total capacity of 44gb. Thanks

Sounds like an error in IE or netscape. Check your internet options (Tools>InternetOptions) under the connections tab and make sure that is set up correctly.

Do you sign in to your ISP or are you using a router with NAT enabled?

I also had the same problem with windows media player. I reinstalled media player and now it can access the net. Just no web browsers other than SBC Yahoo DSL Browser and it is not that good.

One thing I can suggest is to try and uninstall IE by going to the Add/Remove Windows components under the Add/Remove Programs in the control panel to uninstall it and re-install it. If that doesn't work hopefully someone else has an idea. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

No no no. Don't reinstall WinXP. The InternetExplore add/remove is unser the add/remove windows components on the add/remove programs. It is listed on the side of that window.
