The Dell XP will probably install to the Toshiba. But it will require an activation.
Does the Toshiba have XP drivers?

I ran into this a while back when trying to use a Dell CD on another machine. It will install but if it doesn't activate, MS will not give you a new activation code even if you have unloaded it from the other machine.
OEM versions are to be used only on the machine with which they were sold. That is not to say that it will not activate (sometimes they will) but this is illegal and the discussion of illegal practices is not condoned here. -Kev |

I'm on my 4th Dell, but have never tried to put Dell's OEM CD on a different computer. I've always heard the Dell XP CD was tied to the computer's BIOS, and wouldn't work on a different computer.

I am pretty sure dell CD's work on other computers, on the contrary. But talking about this is really not allowed on this forum...
