Found a site that tells you which WinXP services are safe to turn off!!!
Includes complete explanations of each service and advice on which services you can safely disable.(Quote form the site)
It also has it for Win2000 http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm |

Was mentioned on the Screen Savers on TechTV a long time ago and has continued to be broughten up whenever people want to tweak services they don't need. Leo always talked about having a Gaming profile with all but the necessary services disabled... I always thought that was a lil extreme. It's a good site to know about though.

Been used and recommended by many before. Now that SP2 is out for XP, you'll find that many of the services recommended for disabling by Black Viper are now done automiatically in the Service Pack. Some have even been removed. I'd recommend you install the SP2 first, then review BV's recommendations and see which ones fit your needs.

Hi ... I heard of a few people that did do what is on BV site and afterward have problems with there computer , I think rather turning the service to disable just select manual , this way if you do need whatever service you highlighted as manual it still will work ....
