Will "system restore" remove SP1 installation?

HI all,
I installed SP1 from CD on Windows XP PRO last night. I regret doing it (due to significant delay in boot-up time) and would like to undo the installation.

Will a simple "system restore" do the trick? Prior to the installation of SP1, 5 GIG of the hard drive had been used up and by the time the SP1 install was over, it was 8 GIG....strange since I chose not to back up my system.

Any thoughts on what I should do in order to remove SP1?

Thanks for your time.

SP1 should be in Add/Remove Programs, so you can choose it and remove it - provided that you chose to save old files during the SP1 installation.

Anyway, Sp1 does not increase boot time if installed correctly. Sp1 is old anyway. The best for you would be to download SP2, slipstream it to create a new Windows CD, and do a clean install with that new CD.

Thanks RJ...I chose not to backup my files prior to the installation of SP1.

However, I did do a full system backup through XP last week.

What would you suggest, doing a system restore or or do I recover my backup? If I recover the backup, do I get my system exactly as it was last week without any remnants of the SP1 installation?

Thanks again

First try the system restore. If that doesn't work you can try the backup. I'm not familiar with the XP backup, but if it has written image files of your hard drive then copying it back will bring the PC back to the condition it was when you did the backup. Anything new will be no more.

And really, consider doing a clean install with a slipstreamed WinXP SP2 CD.

The thought is to download SP2, slipstream it to Windows XP and do a fresh install. I did that and have a total OS/Program istallation of about 5.5 GB, includ Office 2003 Pro.
