Insert the WIndows 98 CD and boot from it. Choose "command prompt with cdrom support", and once you're in the dos environment, type in

format C:

After it's formatted, reboot, boot again from the Windows 98 CD, this time you choose "start Windows 98 setup"

stick the bootdisk in, and run fdisk to delete all current partitions. then create a new one. reboot the computer with the bootdisk still in, and run the format command format c: to format it. then type cd D:\ (insert cd drive letter where i have d) and then type setup. you will be off and running. i haven't done it in a while, but i think i remember that you may just be able to type setup from the a:\ prompt. don't quote me on that one, tho

edit: didn't know about rj's way, it seems a lot faster. thanks for the advice rj

You shouldn't have to reformat to fix those errors unless you want to get a fresh start - you can try an "over the top" installation. Just boot with the CD and choose Setup Windows 98. Just make SURE when it comes up and asks you what directory to install to, it doesn't say c:\windows.000 - change that to c:\windows.

If all he has done is install the 95 I would suggest the steps noted above to clean everything out and do a clean install. You'll be happier in the long run.
