The disk will install. Microsoft will only activate one of them.

You can and it is illegal even if microsoft doesn't find out. Only one will be able to get updates and be "secure."
Installing XP on more then one computer at one time is illegal unless you have a special CD that allows multiple installs... forgot what these were called... Not sure if this is supposed to be locked or not... |

You can install it on both, but will only be able to activate it on one.. the other will give you a 30 day trial period, and then not let you on until you activate it (which requires buying another license from M$)

You can install XP on how many systems you want even with 1 CD, but you will need a seperate license for each computer unless you have a specific license for multiple computer installations. I'm sure this has been mentioned above already, but not sure so I decided to post it just incase.

if you haven't bought it yet, www.zipzoomfly.com offers a quantity discount for buying more than one copy. Or if budget is a big big factor, you could get linux and install it on as many computers as you like.

Hi folks! I'm sort of in the same position as the author of this thread. My desktop still has ME (Multiple-Errors) and is in dire need of Win Xp Home for compatability issues with the other laptops at my house. So, I have decided to purchase XP Home from a wholesaler.
The question I have (and it's probably a stupid one) but what is the difference between Windows XP Home Edition CD and Windows XP Home Edition OEM as seen at this link: WinXP Thanks in advance for your help! Jack |

OEM is a full (not an upgrade) meant to be sold in conjunction with hardware. It comes with the CD, the key sticker, and a little pamphlet. M$ will not give you free support with the OEM package, you are on your own. Functionally, it's identical to the full retail version.

Or you could use an XP Key Generator. Generate a corperate key and you are GTG on as many PCs as you wish.

I think that's talk of an illegal activity there... Not a good idea.

I'm not saying that I do it...but if I purchase XP Pro (which I have) I should be able to install it on as many of my PCs as I wish.

lobstah24, you are violating the forum rules, specifically rule 9. I suggest you review them, this is an official warning. Link is at the top of the forum.

My apologies...I read the rules when I joined and didn't believe I was in violation of any of them.
Rule #9 Zero Tolerance on Piracy NO WAREZ. NO SERIALS. NO CRACKS / CRACKING / ILLEGAL PROGRAMS. Anything that can be used in software piracy or other illegal software activities will result in a ban. Same goes for abusive programs like mailbombers, forum and usenet flooders and email harvesting bots. This also includes unreleased products. I have not supplied any of the above. Nor have I supplied links for the above. I do not advocate Piracy in any shape or form. I own a legal copy of MS Windows XP Pro and furthermore I have paid for all the software that I use at home and for my business. I take offence to being "Officially warned" when I have not broken any rules. |

lobstah24, installing a single licenced copy of XP meant for one computer, and one computer only, on multiple computers is a violation of the license agreement. This would fall under software piracy.

TheMajor: No, Enterprise has to do with the capabilities of the server. You are thinking about the corporate versions of XP Pro that are bulk licensed with a single install media.
L24, I may have come across strong, but we take enforcement of Rule 9 here very seriously. Even suggesting the use of a key generator is not permitted here. As per Rule 7, last sentence, we will say no more here. Thank you. |
