Question XP Home Won't Boot On Fijitsu Laptop

Please Help!

I have a Fijitsu Laptop Lifebook C, and XP home edition will not boot.

It hangs on startup and then goes through the System check, and finds no errors, and then just repeats this process.

I have replaced the ntldr and ntdetect.com files with fresh files, as this has worked previously with other xp systems, but this time this does not work.

When trying to boot into safemode the system hangs on the Mup.sys file.

I have also replaced Mup.sys file with a file from a different computer and this also hasn't worked.

I am now at a loss now as to what to do next.

Any help will be most greatly appreciated.

I can't find the original XP Home Cd. I have looked for days for it.

I booted it from the floppy boot cd's to replace the ntldr, ntdetect.com, and Mup.sys files.

I have a copy XP Pro Cd, but there is very important data on the drive that needs to be recovered.

Since it is laptop I can't hook up the hard drive as a slave to another computer, and copy the data.

have you tried last known good configuration on the boot menu?
all so get a copy of doc memory and test your ram as it may be a hard ware problem
as a last resort you can install xp pro as a temp measure run setup and when it asks where to install change the folder from c:\windows to c:\winpro that will get you access to you files make shore you chose the leave currant file system intact but if your hardware is faulty then the install will fail you can get adaptors to put a laptop hard drive into a desk top computer which may be your best option

Yes, I tried last known configuration.

Where is doc memory located? I can still access the hard drive booting with the floppys.

Does the laptop hard drive adaptor have a specific name so I can find it on pricewatch?

How do I remove the hard drive from the laptop?

Sorry for so many questions...I am really an expert with desktop computers, but the laptop computer is my son-in-law's, and his whole business is on his laptop.

Will the doc memory file tell me if it's a hardware problem? I hope it's not a hardware problem or he will go insane, and if I don't fix it he will drive me nuts.

There was a corrupted registry error
systemroot/system32/config/software
I did a repair\software and after that the screen goes black on startup.

I wanted to install xp pro in a different directory but the laptop doesn't
recognize the cd rom.

I tried a registry repair\system and the screen still stayed black on starup.

I tried to enter the repair console again and now it won't let me do that. It says the password is invalid even though there was no original password so it was blank.

Sounds like it's time to get one of those adapters and recover your data into a desktop computer - and start fresh. You may still have hardware problems, but at least you should recover your files before you try anything else and possibly lose them completely.

The laptop won't boot from the cd or read from it at all. This is an XP Pro cd. The laptop has XP home installed on it, but the XP home cd can't be located. It's my son-in-law's laptop, so he is the one that lost his original cd AND the manual.
The laptop is Fujitsu Lifebook C Series, (Not Lifebook C as I mentioned earlier) He has been trying to figure out how to remove the hard drive so we can copy his data onto my computer to save his precious data and then do a fresh install (hopefully that will work), but I can't locate the manual on fujitsu-siemens.com or anywhere else. Anyone know where I can find the manual for this or how to remove the hard drive?

try this site you will need the modal no http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/...port/lifebook/
i had a quick look at some of the c Series laptops and most of the hard drives are accessed by removing the screws from the base of the lap top this is a very tec thing to do as you have to split the laptop down to component level and then put it back together again may be a good idea to visit a locale computer shop and let them have the fun

He got the hard drive out himself, successfully. (We are broke so money is a big issue for us now.) He is copying his data to another computer now. Hopefully after he is done with that the laptop will recognize the cdrom for a reinstall.

As a suggestion, you might want to run diagnostics on the hard drive while you have it out. If it's starting to go bad, that would have caused the original problem and you will have a real handful trying to get Windows reinstalled and running right. Most hard drive manufacturers offer them as free downloads.
