Second OS?

I have a computer running Win XP home on a 3 gig intel processor with 1gb of RAM. I'm thinking of putting Windows 98 SE on this computer as a second operating system. First of all, is my computer suitable for this. Second, how would I go about installing the second OS. Third, how do you pick which OS to start when you turn on the computer. Finally, how would I delete 98 se if I changed my mind after installing and would deleting/installing 98se cause any problems with the Win XP OS?

Well, the easy way is to first install Windows 98 and thereafter XP. XP will see that there is Win98 on it and whenever you boot your PC it will give you a choice which OS to boot into.

Now installing Win98 on a PC that already has XP, that's complicated. .but it can be done. Look here: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=24831

Windows 98 has problems with more than 512 MB of RAM. . but there is a fix for that, and I think it also has problems with very fast CPUs over a GHz or something like that.

Dunno about removing 98 afterwards, though.

Why do you want Win98 on it in the first place ? (just curious)

My main reason was just to run any programs that wouldn't work on SP2 and just to experiment and stuff. By the way, everyone is talking about downloading SP2 but the Microsoft website still says "Get ready for sp2 by turning on automatic updates." and such. Is the site just outdated or has sp2 only released in other countries. What's the deal?

The network install of SP2 is available in the M$ download center. That's what everyone is rushing out to get.

There are 3 issues with 98 on your machine - the ram > 512mb issue, the processor > 2.1 GHz issue, and the hard drive > 64 GB issue.

Okay, I guess I'll just abort the whole plan then. I don't want to waste all my time and energy trying to get around all these hurdles. Thanks anyways.
