Turn off processes

How do you turn off unnecessary processes?

When i first installed XP, 18 processes were running, now, 22 processes run at least, and it may be the cause of lag while i drag and resize windows.

Trust me, you already have a very low number of processes for XP. In Windows 98/Me, lots of processes are hidden from the user and do not turn up in the Task manager, in 2000/XP you see them all. As a reference, with no applications open, I still have 39 processes running, most of which do important background stuff. If you're having lag problems while dragging windows, it almost certainly is one particular process at fault, not the number of processes running.

If you are concerned about general performance, then you should read over the article by Force Flow very carefully:

http://www.pcmech.com/show/optimize/677/

He will show you how to disable certain 2000/XP services, etc. as well as provide you with general optimization tips. A must read.
