Blue screen of death!!!!!!!!
My computer is having many problems. At first I had problems installing software. But it would strangely install Winxp pro. But not any of my games. Anyway I did a reinstall of winxp and now an error code says cannot copy files from disk and it show d:/i386. Now I am computer illiterate but that seems like a big error to me. Can anyone help me?
I have a Gigabyte motherboard. Maxtor 160gb hd ati radeon 128 mb video card 2 gb ram thermaltake case w/ 4 fans. winxp pro |

Is this a retail XP disk or an OEM?

When you say you did a "reinstall", did you completely reinstall XP or just repair the existing installation? If you select "new installation" instead of the 'repair console' when you boot from the XP cd, it should recognize the existing installation and offer you another repair option. Follow the prompts on that second repair option and see if it will recognize the disk. Make sure your boot order is set to CD rom first and the XP cd is in the drive.

Are you seeing the Stop: 0x?? error code. That number will tell you exactly whats wrong if you search for it at M$ knowledgebase.

Well I did that and tried to repair it but it said it couldn't and some file names came up saying could not install d:/i386 and some said merlin.acs and of that sort. Whenever I try to reformat my hard drive it says it can't becuase it is in use by another process? What the heck does that mean?
