Problem with disk cleanup

Hi,

I was hoping to get some help with a problem I'm having with Disk cleanup (XP home) from anyone who may have come across it before. In the thread below I had a problem with a virus and one of the members suggested to run disk cleanup.

http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=107998

I hadn't used it before so I tried it out and it would not work. It loads up and then I choose to scan drive C. You can hear it scanning for about 5 or ten minutes and then it sounds like it stops but the scanning screen stays up. I have tried leaving it for over an hour like that but it stays the same. As I wrote in the other thread I have no problem scanning drive D or any other drive of a different user account. I even tried it in safe mode but the same thing happens.

Has anyone come across a similar problem or know of a way to fix this?

Thanks.
