Real Player Latest Version Freezes System

Good evening everyone.

I tried to download the latest Real Player version and it freaks out the computer. If you want to play any video clip it starts for 2 seconds and not only does Real Player freeze but the entire computer.

All other items have always downloaded the first time with no trouble, from music editing software to Quick Time to any Windows updates.

What caused the freak-out please?

System is P4 3.06 1024 memory 250 gb hardrive, cable modem, system is defraged once per week and virus scan done daily.

Thank you for your time.

Hello and welcome to PC Mech,

I'd ditch RealPlayer and use RealAlternative. I think the problem is RealPlayer itself.

I second RJ's suggestion. I won't touch RealPlayer. It is not good software.

Hi kendhuskie !
Just curious, when you uninstalled real player , did your computer function normal ?. When I install anything , I first make a 'Restore Point '. I then shutdown ALL programs that run in the background.I stop the screen saver . I want a clean install so that no program or other things interfer.-Anyway, just wanted to know if your computer is running ok.-------Don

Real Player

Hi there:

After uninstalling the new version and restoring system to
before the install, everything worked fine.

I wouldn't care so much if sites gave you a choice what way to listen to an audio clip or view a video. Some do and I try to avoid Real Player but some are specific.

Although I heard many people not like Real Player, if everyone had problems they wouldn't be on any computer.

There has to be some reason it freaks out the system.

Thank you.

That's why we use RealAlternative that RJ linked to. It plays RealMedia files using Windows Media Player Classic and it works great.

Real Player/Real Player Alternative

Thank you for your advice about downloading the alternative. This did not work as error message came up:
Deletefile failed; code 5.

There has to be something in my system, be it a setting on anti virus or some setting that allows others such easy download.

The only time any problem ever happened was on the Real Player/Real Player Alternative.

While we are all in agreement Real Player isn't a Rolls Royce, others with much poorer systems are able to view the latest version.

Any further info is appreciated.

Be well!!

As far as quality of playback, Real Player is pretty good. But the thing is loaded with spyware. Once I turned it on and a big slowdown occured.

That is the exact reason that I refuse to install it. It also runs usless processes in the back ground whether it's open or not and they take up considerable amounts of RAM and cause many systems to slow down.

Real Player

I don't care about the pitfalls of Real Player, I simply need to know why on a pretty fast system with only 8 percent of space taken and no other download problems why it went all the way through the install showed it downloaded and freaked out. Then when I tried real alternative I got this:

Error comes up
Deletefile failed; code 5 access denied
c:/Windows/System 32/pnort.dll

There are unique things to these 2 download. Some setting on the computer is preventing a proper working. If others with lessor systems are able to download, there has to be a reason. Even if somebody can't fix the situation, it would be appreciated if they could explain what the problem is.

Thanks and be well.

I get quite a few popups from Real player which makes me think that it has spyware but why doesn't adaware pick up anything?

For years, I've traced a lot of computer problems to RealPlayer. I've found the best solution, if one wants to have it, is to install it where it DEFAULTS NOTHING!
