MistaBeanN: Have you recently installed any new hardware? If you have then the solution below is for you.
mattbell: If none of the options work you could try a repair install of windows, put in the XP disk, select Install (not repair console), and then Repair. You will lose any windows updates and service packs. |

I recently put in a network card and thats when it started doing that. I tryed putting in the windows xp pro and nothing came up to install it. Do i need any floppy disk or anything? I have a burned copy of win xp pro could that do anything?

Does the computer work with the network card installed? If so boot up and turn off reboot and turn off restart on error. If when you put the card back in and it happens and says about a hardware change then you do a repair install, overwise you could have a hardware conflict.

Try an repair install first, it says the loss of all your data. First make sure in the bios that the cd-rom drive is higher than the hard drive in the boot order. Then reboot, with the XP CD in, select install, then repair install. This will replace all the vital windows files, but your data will not be lost.

I put the win xp cd in and it didnt automatically read the disk. I tryed going to the advanced bios settings but i need a password to get into it. The computer i am using i got it from my uncle thats dead. Does this mean i am screwed with getting my computer back up or is there anything else that i can do?

I'm having the same problem. I took a stick of memory from one computer and replaced a bad ram in another computer. Now, both Win XPs won't boot up. I've tried Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, and Start Windows Normally, but no luck. How do I repair install? I read do not go to recovery console but I don't see another repair option after the first one. If I install in the same directory, do I lose all data?

I had the same problem, after I downloaded and installed SP 2, it prompted me to restart my computer, then I got the windows XP logo, then a blue screen that said "Setup is being restarted........."
Then it flashes another message for a very breif moment, and restarts, and does it again, and again, and again, and again, and again,..... I had to press F2, select to boot from CD, select Install/Setup, (Enter), select Setup on current drive, and just installed into the same folder. It said I might lose My Documents, but I didn't, Praise the Lord, cause I didn't think about making a backup. But now I have 2 accounts, and 2 My Document folders, maybe I'll back up and format. I did lose all my software and drivers, so you'll have to reinstall everything, but I was able to find my phots, music, downloads, and documents in the old account that didnt get erased.

Nope, OEM. Not a retail copy, you think someone stole my key ? Would SP 2 crash your pc if it found out or though it was illeagal ?

In my case, I think Win XP corrupted because of bad memory. A blue screen flashes and resets my computer. I cannot read the error message though. When I tested the 'bad' memory in another pc, Windows stopped booting up, just like my other pc. Now, even without the bad memory, Windows won't boot up anymore in both pcs. How do I fix this? Of course, I don't want to lose any data.

In your BIOS, is the boot sequence part of the advanced BIOS settings or can you access the boot sequence without a password?

i think if you remove the battery for 10 or 15 minutes it will remove the password, not sure cause i have never tried it, might search google for more answers.
