Reinstalling xp pro over itself

I may have deleted some files from xp during an uninstall of some program in the past. Can xp be reinstalled over itself to redeem such files? Or is format time? Does it have a repair facility I might use? The problem is the system cannot install a firewire card. The card itself is fine cause it installed ok on another xp pro machine. Running ASus p4t533-c. Any coments please,
Doug

Send a message via ICQ to RJ
If it happened not too long ago you could try the system restore.

Anyway, XP does have a repair function. Just boot from the XP CD and continue as if you would install XP. Somewhere at the beginning setup will tell you that it found Windows on the hard drive and asks you if you want it to be repaired. Answer yes and it will be repaired.
It looks like a reinstall, so don't worry about that.
