Dial-up Connection on Start-Up
Just got a new Dell 5150 Laptop with Windows XP Pro. Everything was fine until we installed "AOL Instant messenger". Since then, everytime we start the laptop, aftyer booting up, it tries to connect to the internet (the dial-up window appears). We cancel it, and it comes back. After cancelling it 3 times, it stays gone.
When I go to "Internet Options", on the "Connection Tab", the radio button for "Dial whenever a network connection is not present" is checked. I change it to "Always Dial My default connection" and click APPLY. I then close the "Internet Options" window. If I open it again, the setting is back to "Dial whenever a network connection is not present". I can't get it to stay "Always Dial My default connection". Also --- the password is always doubled to 14 character from 7 when I try to save it there. Anyone ever see this or have an idea about it... Thanks... |

Well, #1 if your running WinXP than the password length is a secrity setting that will prevent anyone from knowing how long your actual password is. #2 Try deleting it out of Network Connections and reinstalling it through network connections as well.
Hopefully that helps you out a little bit. |

Try this:
Open up control panel, then network connections. Click on the Advanced menu at the top, and choose Dial-Up Preferences. On that screen, checkmark "Disable autodial while I am logged on" and hit ok. HTH |
