I finally got XP installed. When my system boots it asked what software do I want to use and it lists XP Professional twice. What can I do at this point? Do I have to un install the whole thing and start over or can I un install 1 xp??
Thanks Steve |

How many hard drives do you see in my computer?
You can also edit the boot.ini file(It's located in C:> I believe but you need to have show hidden files enabled in Folder options) then just remove the proper line and save and you should be all set. |

I looked in My computer and noticed 1 hard drive C
I also have a 120 gig drive but it is not seen at all. What di I need to do to get that drive noticed by XP? So XP wasn't loaded in 2 times? How did this happen? I did drag a my computer icon to the desk top. The only thing on the desk top was Recycle Bin after the initial install. Thanks Last edited by sjm1027; 08-25-2004 at 01:54 PM. |

I believe if you go to control panel/system/advanced/startup and recovery/settings you can click on edit under the first section of Default operating system. You can then edit the win.ini. I suspect it will show two operating systems. Delete one. Which one? Beats me. I'd probably delete the second one.

You would need to edit the boot.ini file not the win.ini file ![]() Maybe zerofilling the hard drive and then installing Windows 2000 will solve the problem. Then you will have 1 OS, and 1 whole 120GB(or you can make how many partitions you want. You make one in setup. Then the rest in Windows). |

What you have just happens whenever you reinstall XP/2000 on a partition which already had a boot.ini file from a previous install. That's all it needs, every other file of the old Windows version may be gone. Instead of overwriting the old boot.ini, Windows setup just adds another line to it to be safe. Just delete the surplus line.
