New XP Build Is Having Network Problems!
I was building my new computer for multimedia work and not for the internet. By internet computer broke, so I thought I should get the new one online until I get the old one fixed. It is an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe with onboard LAN. I installed the nVidia drivers and a box popped up saying the network cable is unplugged. I took the cable from the computer I am on right now and plugged it into the new computer and nothing happened. This compute came up wtih the same message. When I plugged in back in to this one, it started working again. I tried it in the new computer and nothing happens. Is there something else I have to set up? I was looking through the network properties on this computer and they match my new one.

I'm not quite sure if I understand what you're doing. Are you trying to connect computer to computer?
If so, you will need a crossover cable, not a regular LAN cable. Either that, or connect both computers to a hub or switch.

This computer goes to a switch that's connected to a cable modem. I want the new computer to go to the switch, too. I was using this cable to see if it would work, but it's not. Unplugging this computer from the switch and using that cable to plug the new computer to the switch is what I tried, but the new computer always says there is no cable.

Try running the Networking Wizard on the new computer. From what you said, sounds like the Network may not be properly set up. If this doesn't work...does the switch have MAC address filtering enabled? If it does, then you need to add the new IP address so that the PC will connect.
Hth... e.n.

It could be a bad cable. Do you have another one you could try?
