WARNING for XP SP2 & AMD64's

A problem in the Service Pack 2 update for Windows XP may keep owners of AMD-based computers from using the long-awaited security package, according to Microsoft. In an article posted in the Knowledge Base section (http://dw.com.com/redir?destUrl=http...7343&lop=nl_ex) of its Web site, Microsoft says that Service Pack 2 may not work with computers running Advanced Micro Devices' 64-bit microprocessors. The Redmond, Wash.-based company says owners of such PCs may want to bypass the update completely. AMD's 64-bit chips include the Athlon 64 for PCs and the Opteron for servers ... Installing SP2 on AMD 64-bit machines may cause the devices to restart repeatedly, according to Microsoft.

Wow. Stunning, if you ask me. Oh well - never built a AMD Athlon 64-bit processor build and probably won't in the near future.
