Re: Clients computer reboots at log in

Hey all,

A client called me up and told me to come over and fix his computer. He told me what exactly is going on and I wrote it down in my notes to the best of my ability.

First of all, he told me these specs: Windows XP Home, AMD Athlon XP 1.5ghz, 512MB RAM(not sure what type of RAM or brand name as he did not know), AIW card.

He told me that while in Windows, the screen would flash weird colors at him. He would also get multiple images of things.

So he rebooted the computer, and went into the BIOS, and he would see multiple images of anything on the BIOS.

He is also saying that when he boots into XP, the system would reboot once he is at the login screen.

I do not know where to start with this computer. TIA

[P.S- The first thing that I am going to do is test the video card with another one and see if I can boot properly. After this, I am going to run memtest and see if it finds any errors with the RAM. After that, I am going to try to boot in safe mode, and if I can, I will try to run diagnostic tools on the machine and hopefully get it to boot normally. If not, then a restore point should do the trick. Anymore ideas guys? Thanks]

If this also happens in the BIOS, it's either the monitor or the video card acting up. In any case, it's a hardware, not a software problem. Try to use the video card in another pc, or another monitor.
