NTLDR missing? NEED HELP!
I booted up my computer today and it came up with "NTLDR missing". I don't know what happened. The computer functioned fine the day before and was shut down as normal. How can I fix this and boot up the computer?

you might try a repaire install.
but do not go into the repaire console it should replace any missing files |

If you are familiar with the recovery console you could try that, typing fixboot to clear the problem.

This happened to me once.
A basic XP repair will fix it but I had another problem, my graphics card was dieing. I don't know what card you have but an e-mail to the company's tech support is in order. Run a diagnostic for your hard drive and find out what's going on that hits the dirve, but, you may have other problems.

I've actually got a recent post about my computer locking up on me... My thoughts were the video card.

A friend had a problem that started with the same error message. Long story short, (after XP reload, new HDD, etc.) he had a bad stick of memory. Go figure....

I'm going to reformat the drive and reload windows... If it comes up, would that mean that it wasn't bad memory or video card?

It shouldn't hurt anything to reformat and reload, but the NTLDR missing message can also mean that you've a non-bootable floppy in your floppy drive, if the Bios is set to look there first . . . I'd imagine you've already checked that, in which case: good luck with your reinstall
If you're not sure about the hard drive or the memory, you could always test them before reinstalling. Use the diagnostics (a free download) from the hard drive manufacturer's website, and perhaps MemTest86+ for the memory modules [http://www.memtest.org] |

If it happens again then you start checking for hardware problems.

Got it reloaded.... Seems fine. I think I may have gotten careless when I was deleting some files. Don't know... But I'll see how this goes.

The messege can be also related to a bad IDE cable.

Why would that stop the computer from booting?

A bad cable may sometimes interfere with the boot process.

I highly doubt a cable went bad from normal use. That is not a common failure item unless it has been handled quite often. The case hasn't even been open for a few months.
I think I just deleted something I shouldn't have. |
