Installing Win2K on a 400MHz PII after HD crash

My system was purchased in 1998 and used to run Win98 before the hard drive recently crashed. Because the OS came installed I don't have an installation CD; however a friend has a copy of Win2K that I am thinking about installing instead. However, I heard that there are possibly some compatibility problems with Win2K and some older BIOSes--I have an American Megatrends BIOS (not sure on specs).
Does anyone know if this is a real issue, or if I should not install Win2K because of this?

thanks

The only BIOS limitiation that I know of is when it can't see HDDs larger than a certain size.

It should be fine.

Now, I did have an older Dell Inspiron that was running Win 98 that I had formatted and on which I attempted to install W2K. Both W2K and XP would crash during the installation and the only way I could remedy the problem was to flash the BIOS to a newer version. None of the hardware had been changed.

A bios of that era may not be fully acpi compliant. Win2k can be installed with a standard hal if your bios is not up to running it.
