Quick XP License Question
I want to dual boot XP home on my machine, Have one XP Home installation for gaming, and one XP home installation for work.
Can I install XP twice on the same computer with one license, or do I have to go out and buy another Windows XP just to install it again? |

So you want to dual boot two partition (or two HDDs) of Windows XP Home on a computer and you're unsure whether you can install two partitions with one liscence? I don't think you can activate it...because technically, a new partition or a new hard drive is equivelant to a new computer.

You need to purchase two copies of Win XP Home for running the dual system I believe. The whole licensing issue is made because there should only be one copy of XP per computer. I believe in order to use a dual OS you should have two seperate hard drives and install one OS on each. Win XP detects your computer settings and will notice that after the one good install the computer is different since you are installing on a new drive. You could try it and call the number it gives you in the installation process when it notices and maybe MS could allow it. I really doubt this though. Hope that helps!

You should be able to use one license. It is one physical machine. The license is for machine, not partitions.

there realy is no need or advantage to having two installs of xp.
all that is necessary for you to do is creat two user accounts, one for you and another for work. they will be like two seperate systems as far as your concerened what setting and install you put in as one user will not affect the settings and install for the other user. so what would be the reason to install two systems |

To tell you the truth, I have used one copy of XP on two machines at the same time with no problems. I had to call Microsoft to activate the second machine but they didn't mind. I have since bought another copy but I can testify that XP works on at least two machines with one copy.

Since you also couldn't *use* multiple copies of the o/s at once, I would have guessed m$ would allow it. The one copy per computer is so that only one "user" can use the software at a time. Thanx for the info Hiho.
