Hi Guys, can anyone help me with a link or site where I can download WinXP Service PK1; I went to Microsoft's site but seems they are more interested in Promoting SP2, Secondly all their links point to Ordering the CD, which I don't mind doing except for the two to three weeks waiting period. Need it to load Xp on my new rig.
Thanx |

Hallo and welcome to PC Mech.
Is there a reason why you don't want SP2 ? Because the best would be to download SP2 (it includes all fixes of SP1 as well) and slipstream it. If you are really sure that you don't want SP2, then here ya go: Windows XP Service Pack 1a RJ

WinXP SP1a Here is the link for single PC install, rather than a network download. Not sure if there is much difference, only a bit more complexity.

The single user install uses Windows Update, and Windows Update will only download the files that you don't have. So if you have some critial updates that you downloaded before, and these upates are included in SP1 as well, they won't be downloaded again coz you already have them. Also the files won't be downloaded at once, only when you're online. File by file, eventually you have SP1 complete. Anyway I recommend the network download. . which is the entire SP1 (or SP2, it also has single user and network install), because you want to install XP on your new PC, so you don't have any updates installed. The size will therefore be the same. You can slipstream the service pack into the Windows XP files and burn a new CD, so you'll never again have to download the same service pack (with windows update, you'd have to do it after every Windows installation). Sure, the file size is big, but IMHO worth it. RJ |

Don't forget there's a SP1 and a SP1a. Not much difference between the two, just so you know.
