I was trying to install my palm top old handspring to XP. Found the proper driver and started the install. all was going fine until I had to sync up the data in the middle of the install and when you get an error message you just hit next.
Well I got this equivelant to a blue screen (blue print) and it said something about a bad driver and to reboot. I did the reboot and my screen came back all garbled. This was the reason why my system had to be rebuilt when SP2 was downloaded. My question is... Is XP very sensitive to bad drivers and bad installs and if so does it screw up the system so bad that you need to reformat the hard drives in some cases? What I did was restored my system to what I had last night. Everything seems ok so far. I am gun shy because it took 5 days to get my system back up last time. I just had to reinstall the Palm Desktop software for my Visor. I went to Palm One, jumped through their hoops and downloaded the latest version of the Palm OS. Installed without a problem, although I didn't do the sync in the middle of the install like it wanted. I synched after the install and after XP got through doing whatever it felt it needed to do to get the Visor recognized/installed/up to speed. Probably had to do with using the USB connection.
I've tried to use an old version of Palm Desktop on XP and never been successful. |
