Question Successful install of SP2, restart…BSOD…

BSOD said “Page_Fault_in_nonpaged_area, Stop: 0x0000050…plus a few other Stop like 0x80505BBD.

Tried to restart a couple of times, no luck. Restarted in Safe Mode, went to Admin=Event Viewer and read Error Properties;

The following boot-start or system-start drivers(s) failed to load:

AFD
AmdK8
Fips
IP Sec
MRxSmb
NetBIOS
Net BT
Pivot
RasAcd
Rdbss
Tcpip
Tmtd

Info stated “A device attached to the system is not working.”

Went into System Restore (punched in yesterday) and now I am working. What I don’t know is…what exactly is the problem? Could it be my Virus Program? (PC-Cillin) I Googled the Page_Fault code which gave some info, one being memory, but this ‘puter was working fine this morning and again after System Restore.

Not sure what to do with this SP2. Appears that if I download again the same result will happen because of…what? Also is the download of SP2 still lurking even though I restored to yesterday?

What should my next step be?

Need some further enlightenment on this Memtest86, v3.1a. Have loaded a floppy and also onto a CD as shown on the site.

Some of the info was a bit like reading Chinese. I assume that I need to set my BIOS to change the boot-up to a floppy?

How many of the tests need I run? If there is a problem early on this will be indicated?

My memory module is a 512MB Kingston as recommended in the Asus K8V SE Deluxe mobo manual. I do have a second module not yet installed.

What I don’t understand is, IF the memory stick is bad, why does the computer happily do its job with no problems but crash with installation of SP2?

Many thanks, Pam! I do have an Athlon Amd 64 processor. Read both links, interesting.

As suggested I will not try installing SP2 until a solution is reached, which I am sure will be coming down the road.
