XP Windows will not restart on first try
I noticed on my pc that my machine will not reboot on the first try. But it does reboot on the second try without a problem. Has anybody ever heard of this problem?

How far does it get on the first try? Please give us some more information as to exactly what is happening on the first boot attempt.

Well, when i click reboot the first time, it goes straight back to the desktop. Basically it doesnt do anything. When I click reboot the second time it automatically shutsdown and reboots...

Hmmmmm
OK - I am talking with scomac at the moment (my son) and we both think on your first reboot attempt, there is something still running in the background that is holding it up. Are you on a network or anything like that as that would slow down the reboot process. Check your task manager and see what all you have running and is there anything else that you are having a problem with? Also on your first reboot attempt, are you allowing sufficient time before trying a second reboot to allow any background saves or processes to complete? It just sounds like there is some program that is failing to close properly when you reboot.

The other thing I should have asked is what version of Windows are you using? On my Win 98se machine, it gets temperamental at times and has problems sometimes when you want to restart the computer. Most of the time on that one it is a .dll file that gets hung up and I have to go to ctrl-alt-delete and bring up the task manager and shut everything off manually and then it will shut down.
