Well I loved XP, until this....

Well I've reinstalled XP many times (lost track). It's really stable for the most part, but something goes wrong once in a while. Anywho, I just reinstalled it 2 days ago, then I had the same problem with 2 games not starting up. So I though maybe it was the DirectX problem so I installed it on another partition. Well the games are working now, but I tried to activate-that's where I got kinda mad. Message went something like this- You have reinstalled Windows XP too many times (summed up for you). My question is, since I have to call them up in order to activate it, are they gonna like question me (have you legally attained this software, etc.) and am I legally allowed to have it installed twice on the same computer? Thanks.

I don't see why this should be a problem just explain what went wrong in exact detail and why you had to reinstall (x) amount of times. This should help you out.

Cool

It was no big deal for me. I installed twice within a month because of some hardware changing and was forced to call. Explained what happened and was issued a new code within minutes. No wait time, just a easy resolution. MS appears to have gotten this one right, at least in my experience.

When at work we had a critical machine that had to be reactivated twice in a fortnight we phoned up, the automated bit spat the number out, but when I spoke to the person he asked no questions just asked the cide and gave a new one. It was as simple as that.

All you do is call Microsoft, they will give you a code to enter in.. Its simple, this happens alot when I format client machines... Don't get mad

I have to do this everytime I reinstall XP. I've had my disc for 2 years and I like to do a fresh install about every 6 months. It's kind of a pain, but there's not much you can do. Actually last time I reformatted, I chose to "Activate and register with Microsoft" and it didn't make me call. Although I had just moved and had a new address, that could have something to do with it. You could give it a shot.
