Question DOS and windows ME/2K

Hey- i'm new here- i hope somone can help me...

I'm trying to run a game that requires a 'pure DOS mode' my computer runs windows ME(for games) and windows 2k(for networking) from the same partition. neither of which seem to have such a mode. i tried running the game using DOSbox, and although it works, and supports my USB joystick no problems, it's really really slow!

Does anyone know how i can either...

a)improve the performance of dosbox (or suggest a better emulator)
b)get into a pure dos mode from 2k or me
c)install a dos partition on my computer

one other thing- my floppy drive is dead, so i cant really do boot discs.

thanks

Hi,

a) DOSBox is the only emulator I know of. . and unfortunately its development is a bit slow.

b) In 2K you can't get into pure dos mode because there is no such thing. But ME does have a pure DOS mode, M$ just removed the option to get into it. With a simple patch you can get your access to it. I don't remember it right now but a google search for Windows ME DOS mode should give you plenty of results.

c) I don't know if DOS will run on today's fast computers.

So I'd apply the patch to get access to DOS mode in WinME. That's the best you can do.

I'd get rid of ME and put 98SE on it. At least with 98 you can create a proper config.sys and not have it sucked into the registry like ME will do to it - and you can boot to true DOS.
