xp add/remove utility

Have listed two ATI display drivers with both being the same or duplicates.
Tried to remove one because of error message when booting.
Message from add/remove when attempting this is "Unable to uninstall older non -ATI Display Drivers"

Help please

If you have an ATI card that allows you to hookup 2 displays then you will have 2 ATI display adapters in Device Manager, 1 will be called secondary. It's correct, just let it alone.
That said, what's going on?
Did the comp just begin popping this message up out of the blue or did you just change video cards without cleaning all the old drivers off your computer ?
We need a little history from you.

I upgraded my main pc (motherboard, cpu, memory, & video card). Then upgraded to XP-Pro. After all systems were OK upgraded hard drive. Then installed removed components in a second machine.
As you suggested 2nd pc now had 2 display drivers on the HD.
Finally able to remove ATI display drivers by first removing ATI's Hydravision.

In both machines the Add/Remove program listings still show programs that were removed without data in the second column.

In XP Home - once program was was removed it no longer stayed on the listing???

You've run into the reason why I usually recommend that an OS upgrade begin with a format and reinstall. What you've described happens all too often.
Yes there is a specific order for removing ATI drivers if you do it by hand. There is also an ATI driver utility that will remove everything ATI ( and I do mean everything ) from your computer if you use it.
Once a program is removed in XP, or any other OS, it should no longer be listed.
What you will have to do, you may or may not find it worth the time, is go through the Add/Remove listing and remove the programs that are no longer functional.
If you don't have it already download a copy of DriverCleaner as well as a copy of RegCleaner and clean up as many loose ends as you can.
