Thanks pam, for the list...it seems like every other effective AV software is on there...nice thing TrendMicro's AV softwares aren't on there.

one more program

one program that is not on the list is Ahead's Software InCD (Nero). It has conflict with SP2 causing failure of the Safe Mode boot.

Michal,
What version of incd are you running. Personally I've had nothing but trouble with V3 on Win2k/XP & as a result haven't tried V4 with Nero6.

Incd 3 IMO just didn't work! If version 4 works better then 3 then HURRAH! However I don't think it's an XP issue. It's just a coding issue with Ahead.

I'd love it to work but 3 caused my PC, w2k or XP to hang on such a regular basis that I no longer use that packet writing software & I'm warey about using 4.....

Your experiences may be different to mine but, in my opinion, I wouldn't waste my time. However V4 may be 'usable' whereas V3 more certainly was not.

I've been using V4 with Win2k for quite a while now. Works as advertised.

dsl problems.........

I have tried countless times to install sp2. Tried clean install right after reloading xp. Tried all the tweaks and tricks i could find. For whatever reason sp2 makes my machine unstable and dsl allot slower. I have a Compaq and a friend of mine has the same type. They have issues with service pack 2 as well. Yes I even updated all my drivers. For whatever reason sp2 hates my machine. Which is fine. I think im smart enough to take care of my own security, (its my reality and I like it here lmao). I even tried the cd version of sp2. No kidding no matter what with sp2 my dsl drops by 25 percent. Even tec support has no idea why?? Leave it to me. Im special. I have always known that cause I got to ride the short yellow bus to school hahahaha. Im kidding. Peace all..........im out

Personally I ditched SP2, because right after install it losed my IP address and caused nothinhg but problems with my 4 pcs when accessing the net. In order for me to access the net on anyone of them, I had to configure it manually. This was even after disconnecting the router, and turning off my dls modem and restarting. When I uninstalled SP2 everything went back to normal. My opinion if it is not broken don't, update it.....

Exclamation

SP2 installs fine and very few applications are affected, most of the ones can be patched to remove the minor issues. Use the advisory here before installing SP2: Optimize XP

Kazaa Lite K++ won't connect with it, but there is a patch. Its likely the same with older versions of Kazaa.

pam123, shouldn't it be sp2 causes trouble for these programs, seeing as they were around before sp2 arrived???

Foghat: Sorry, but I thought I'd jump in here, as I noticed that you have an ASUS MB, with two 120 GB HDD's running in SATA RAID 0. I just built my rig using an ASUS K8NE-Deluxe and have 2 - 120GB Samsung SATA HDD's, but I could not get WinXP Home (sp2) to recognize my SATA RAID controller F6 disk for my NVIDIA nForce 3 250GB chipset. Did you have any config problems with your SATA RAID 0/Win XP, sp2? That's the only glitch I've had. I've even gotten the Silicon Image SATA RAID 0 to work with the identical F6 disk that didn't work for the NVIDIA RAID 0. Weird.

I personally have found SP2 much better than SP1 which I found to slow down my machine (Gigabyte GA-7ZXE runing Athlon XP 1700+) alot. Now I have WinXP pro, and wonder if that makes the difference. I have installed it on a variety of machines. Now one thing I have started to do is use a WinXP pro/SP2 slip streamed version. Aside from making it an easier reinstall, I was able to get WinXP to install in machines that otherwise would not install at all. The slip streaming utilizes the newer drivers that SP2 provides. I started doing when I did a boot CD at http://www.ubcd4win.com/howto.htm which gives you the info at the bottom titled: Slipstreaming SP1a or SP2 to XP, AutoStreamer and Manual Instructions
. But you can google Autostreamer which has it's own site. Works good with with Win2000 as well.
